A dietary source of gamma-linolenic acid

Evening primrose oil is pressed from the seeds of Oenothera biennis and is one of the few dietary sources of gamma-linolenic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid. The fatty-acid figures are therefore the relevant specification: each softgel provides 1,000 mg of oil supplying 800 mg of linoleic acid and 100 mg of GLA.

A small amount of vitamin E, 3 mg at 25% NRV, is included; vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, and it also helps to keep the delicate fatty acids within the softgel stable. It is a functional inclusion rather than a figure added to the label.
